The Solar System’s Oldest Treasures
Tania LePivert-Jolivet researches asteroid samples from sample-return missions. She explains that even five grams of asteroid dust can be a true treasure, that we know of several generations of asteroids, and that comets and asteroids are similar in some ways, yet different in others.
In the new episode, we follow the traces of primitive asteroids. We discovered that planets also migrate, that we know of multiple generations of asteroids, that asteroids and comets are similar yet different, and that even five grams of asteroid dust can be a true treasure. We are accompanied by researcher Tania Le Pivert-Jolivet, who reveals to us what fascinated her the most upon looking at the samples of asteroid Ryugu brought back to Earth by the Japanese Hayabusa2 mission.
Tania Le Pivert-Jolivet is a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands.
