Space pirouettes
In the 50th episode of the podcast, we took a spin. Diego Godoy Rivera revealed that stars are true cosmic dancers. They all rotate around their own axes, performing their own pirouettes. And because they gradually slow down over time, we can use gyrochronology to determine their ages.
In the jubilee 50th episode of the podcast, we took a bit of a spin. Researcher Diego Godoy Rivera from the Canary Islands Institute of Astrophysics revealed to us that stars are true cosmic dancers. Every single one of them, without exception, rotates around its own axis and performs pirouettes. Young stars rotate fast, and their rotation slows down over time. Using gyrochronology, Diego thus estimates their age.
